‘Ship Check’ Self-Assessment

A quick audit to see if your fleet is built to sail:

Whether you’re early in your career or sitting in the C-suite, this check-in can reveal where you’re strong, where you’re coasting, and where you’ve got work to do. Be honest. This isn’t about judgment – it’s about clarity.

Step 1: Rate Your Ships

For each of the following ships, rate your current situation from 1 (nonexistent) to 5 (fully established and active):

  1. Mentorship

  2. Allyship

  3. Sponsorship

  4. Partnership

  5. Advocates

  6. Peer Relationships

  7. Accountability

  8. Growth Stretchers

Step 2: Reflection Questions

  1. Which ships feel the strongest right now?

  2. Which ones are missing or weak – and how is that showing up in your career?

  3. Are there any “deadweight” relationships you’re holding onto out of guilt or habit?

  4. Who have you helped grow this year – and who’s helped grow you?

  5. Which ship will you intentionally build or strengthen over the next 60 days?

Step 3: Ship Goals

  1. Build: (Which ship will you build from scratch?)

  2. Strengthen: (Which existing ship will you invest more energy into?)

  3. Release: (Which ship has served its season and can be let go with gratitude?)

  4. Stretch: (What relationship will help you grow beyond your current level?)
